How do Geologists Predict When Volcanoes Are Going To Erupt?
To monitor a volcano and predict when it is about to erupt, geologist use devices that detect surface changes in altitude. They also evaluate the amount of water in the volcanoes crater lake, the magnetic field, and gases coming from a volcano. Geologist measure the climate of the underground water because if the water is hot, that means there is magma rising toward the surface. Many small earthquakes, caused by movement of magma under the crust, arise around a volcano when it is about to erupt.
